E-01 — general printer error
Epson's own instruction is to turn the product off and back on again, and if the error continues, check for a paper jam. It's worth unplugging from the wall for a couple of minutes rather than just tapping the power button, since a proper cold restart clears more than a warm one. Open the scanner unit and look for jammed paper, packing material or anything else that shouldn't be in there, especially on a printer you've recently unboxed or moved. If the code keeps returning with nothing obstructing it, it needs service.
