E-02 — scanner error
Turn the product off and back on again, which is Epson's first instruction and clears a fair number of these. If it comes back, check whether anything is stopping the scanner carriage moving under the glass, and on a printer that's recently been shipped or moved, check whether a transport lock was ever released. If the code persists after that, it's usually a service job rather than something to keep poking at.
